Why Compost?

Food scraps, expired food and other compostables are sometimes an unavoidable fact of life. When they are sent to the landfill they are, at best, trapped with a mix of toxic and non-recyclable trash for decades. At worst, they break down and release methane into the atmosphere which is a potent greenhouse gas. Composting reduces that impact as well as captures nutrients that can be used enrich soils throughout the region. (Photo credit Waste Today Magazine)
